About the event
Join QC and the Queer South Asian Women's Network for a special virtual screening of Chutney Popcorn. This comedy-drama follows Reena, a young lesbian Indian-American woman in New York who offers to be the surrogate mother for her sister. The film examines the relationships between Reena and her mother as she struggles to accept her daughter's sexuality and lifestyle, while showing the unbreakable connections of family.
Queers for a Cause is an LGBTQ+ fundraising organization focused on highlighting other essential LGBTQ+ organizations, creating safe spaces for the community, and being a platform for and by queer creators. Reel Queer Group, as a part of Queers for a Cause, hopes to celebrate all the reel-y queer film and TV we watch in the name of a little (mis?)representation.
The Queer South Asian Women’s (QSAW) Network is a grassroots organization based in Canada. Their mission is to empower, visibilize, connect, and enhance a sense of belongingness amongst gender marginalized LGBTQ+ South Asian diaspora.
100% of funds from this event go directly to the QSAW Network.
